She has a strong track record in investment management and has worked very closely with social investors for a number of years. Her expertise is a welcome addition to the Board.”

Sarah Smart said: “The Big Society Capital Board has played an important role in ensuring that charities and social enterprises can access the repayable finance they need. I am very much looking forward to working with them and helping more organisations deliver better social outcomes for people all over the UK.”

Sarah is a Chartered Accountant and worked in the investment management industry for many years, focussing on institutional investment, latterly responsible for developing and managing liability-driven and absolute return investment solutions for institutional investors.

Sarah is currently Chair of The Pensions Trust, one of the leading workplace pension funds in the UK. She was also a Director of Social Investment Scotland from 2009 to 2015, an Edinburgh based charity dedicated to developing the creation and growth of social enterprise in Scotland, and Chair of the Social Growth Fund from 2014 to 2015.

Sarah will chair Big Society Capital’s Audit, Risk and Compliance committee.
