Social need

One in three children in Bangladesh are underweight because of malnutrition. Many of these children live in rural areas underserved by traditional retail channels.


Grameen Group and Groupe Danone entered into a joint venture to produce and distribute an affordable fortified yoghurt to rural populations.


The venture is creating positive health outcomes and creating jobs for local women who distributed the product. It has also created product, manufacturing and distribution innovations that have been deployed by Danone globally, including small scale production methods. The joint venture structure separate from the main Danone businesses supported innovative approaches to the social problem.
