Community sports organisations and leisure trusts engage their local communities in physical activities that improve their health and wellbeing. They can also act as community anchors, provide important local services that might otherwise not be available or affordable
Potential social investment solution
Social investment could help community sports providers and leisure to access capital to refurbish or expand facilities or working capital to deliver new contracts. This would enable providers to increase the range and quality of services they provide, particularly to those who may face barriers to participation or have specific needs.
Revenues may be derived from a combination of fees and charges to the public, along with contracts from local government or health commissioners.
Areas for further exploration
We are interested in exploring the use of SITR for community sports, as well as the possible need for larger amounts of capital for major facility development.
